Twilight
W. Brown
Running on a ribbon of beach I follow
your steps, the only ones
to follow, I promised
they are the only marks in the sand save
a crab skittering
a small bird resting
your path so definite, so deep
winding beyond my sight
beyond what I know
All alone now but not lonely
I leave my footprint beside yours
a resting place for tumbling shell
or a pebble silenced the heel
a sudden home least expected
Moon rising right
Sun setting lavander hush
I raise my hands to cup them
delight in the weight of perfection
a moment of balance
between rising and falling
between dreams and fulfillment
beginnings and quiet closure
I never thought I would hold the sun and moon
never thought I would find you
I remember looking for you
